Kathryn Yu
User Experience Designer in New York
A bunch of random facts:
Most recently, I was VP of User Experience in New York City for Digitas Health.
Before that I did UX at DigitasLBi and Thomson Reuters.
I am also a former music writer, DJ, singer, and composer/musician.
I was one of the first users of Blogger around the year 2000.
While a CS student at Stanford, I was Lawrence Lessig's webmaster and created his weblog.
For my college internship, I worked on a failed web browser at AOL/Netscape; the same team would later go on to create Firefox.
I've freelanced as a music/live event photographer for SPIN, Pitchfork, and many others.
Some celebs I've photographed include: Bruno Mars, Yoko Ono, Paul Simon, Snoop Dogg, Nick Hornsby, Salman Rushdie, Neil Gaiman, Tori Amos, Lenny Kravitz, Morrissey, Leonard Cohen, David Byrne.
I still shoot for Atlas Obscura and Open House New York on occasion.
My favorite architecture and interior design era is mid century modern.
My husband and I once purchased a still-sealed Apple //c off of eBay and unboxed it on the Internet.
I may have coined the phrase "pizza upskirt" on my friend Adam's pizza blog.
I like fancy drinks and bourbon whiskey.
My favorite cocktail is a daiquiri made with fresh lime juice using the late great Sasha Petraske's recipe (2 oz rum, .75 oz simple syrup, 1 oz fresh lime).
My favorite bourbon is Jefferson's.
I like the musical Hamilton, Beyoncé, Notorious B.I.G., Duke Ellington, and George & Ira Gershwin.
My current favorite karaoke songs are: "We Can't Stop" by Miley Cyrus; "Everything is Everything" by Lauryn Hill; and "Stronger" by Kanye West.
I have a bot created for me by my good friend Buzz Anderson; you can find it at @kathryn_ebooks on Twitter. It's often more entertaining than I am.
We have a puggle; her name is Beta.
