Hey there, I’m Katie! I’m currently a student attending Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada. I specialize in the music and media industries, and I have an interest in entrepreneurship and small businesses. I occasionally like to write, so feel free to check out my blog ^

Creative Industries is a program that combines the practicality of business and applies it to Art industries, as well as covering topics that affect all the Art industries such as Intellectual Property, the creative process and entrepreneurship in creative fields. Each student in the program selects to creative fields to specialize in, in order to get a better understanding of how business works in that specific field. I’ve chosen the music and media modules, both are industries I am passionate about as well something I have a knack for. A couple subsections of those sectors that have caught my eye are the live event industry and talent management in both music and media.

I recently had the chance to volunteer at Toronto’s Indie Week as a Stage Manager and it was an amazing inside look into the type of career I want to pursue. Over 5 nights, I managed four stages at three different venues, with over 25 bands playing on those stages. It was a nice reminder as to why I want to go into the Music industry, the energy from everyone - the bands, the audience, the staff - is infectious and I can’t wait to see where it takes me.
