One of my strengths from my StrengthsQuest is what they like to refer to as "WOO," or Winning Over Others. Winning over others, in my opinion, is being able to make others feel comfortable and being able to connect with everyone. I have always been a very personable person and like to make sure that everyone is feeling comfortable when talking to me. I am able to make friends with anyone I meet and take great pride in that. It has helped me form a huge group of friends who all are very important to me.
Singing "Carmen Ohio" holds a lot of importance to me. When I first came to this huge university, I felt lost amongst a huge crowd of individuals who all seemed like they had truly found their place here. I was wondering what their trick was and how they came to be so comfortable in such a large place. When I attended my first football game at Ohio Stadium, I learned the trick. A random stranger put his arm around my shoulders with my best friend on my other side. We started swaying and singing and it was in that moment that I felt like I belonged and had a place here at Ohio State. I was a part of something bigger, and while I may be a very small part of that, I know that without me there, that would be one less Buckeye sharing their pride for Ohio State, and every fan counts. We are known for having the best fans in the land, and this tradition of singing "Carmen Ohio" proves our loyalty to the university and the comradery amongst all Buckeyes across the nation.
During my first semester at Ohio State, I have learned a few lessons that I would love to share with you.
1. Make sure you get involved. It will help you meet others with the same interests as you
2. Employ good study habits from the start of school. It is hard to recover from a low first test grade.
3. Go to your professor's office hours. It can help you have a more in depth discussion of the material that will help you understand it better and it also allows you to make relations with your professors.
4. Don't be afraid to ask for help. Transition to college can be difficult but your RAs, TAs, and advisers are there to help make the transition easier.
5. Be social and make friends. Spending four years at college without any friends would be extremely difficult. Make friends that will support you and help you enjoy your time here at the Ohio State University.
