As soon as I could talk, I was a little bit off. I would stop in the middle of my sentences and I would say multiple syllables twice. I was constantly telling kids in school that I had a stutter, and at five years old, most kids did not know what that was. Since this was such a frustrating time in my life, I used music to get away. I would watch various television shows and movies that were musically based. I felt that this was an escape for me. I soon found out that when I sang, it was a different breathing pattern and there was no stutter. If I could not say a sentence without stuttering, sometimes I would sing it instead. I started taking voice lessons, and I tried out for our elementary talent show. I ended up winning the talent show. It was one of the best feelings because I found a way to express my voice without stuttering. Since then, I have used music in all aspects of my life; whether it be listening to music for fun, or listening to music to help me concentrate, it has really been helpful. At the University of Georgia, I am getting my certification in Music Business. I soon hope to live in Nashville and work with a record label. My main goal in life is to provide one child with music as an escape, as it was for me.
