I am a naturalist and environmental educator living and exploring in Bozeman, Montana. I am inspired by nature and passionate about conservation and sustainability issues. I understand natural systems, obtaining my degree in Biology with a concentration and research experience in Ecology, and I love to share my knowledge of nature with others. I have spent several years in the non-profit environmental field, during which I recently co-authored an award-winning children’s book, Discover the Yellowstone River, with support from the National Park Service and a team of other leading conservation groups. I teach environmental education and stewardship to children, families, and professionals, including for a time aboard a tall ship on the waters of Lake Michigan.
I am also an artist, transferring the beauty and complexity of nature onto paper, attempting to capture the spirit of the subject. For me, art is a venue of self-expression and self-examination, as well as a way to record and recollect the dynamics of the wild. I am trained in biological illustration and have a painting on permanent display at the Daniel M. Fisk Museum of Natural History. I also complete design work and fine art in my free time and by commission.
During the long days of summer, I love to mountain bike, trail run, hike with my pup, and explore new trails. When time slows and winter arrives, I traverse the snowy wonderland on skis and snowshoes.
Currently, I am writing a book which unites my love and knowledge of nature with my passion for art. An Artist's Field Guide to the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem will present a naturalist's explanation to this iconic ecosystem and showcase artwork of local wildlife from the region’s talented artists, including some of my own illustrations. Readers, while experiencing diverse local artwork on every page, will also gain an understanding and appreciation for this treasured natural area that boasts the world’s first national park and remains as one of the largest intact temperate ecosystems on the planet.
