Katie Howard

I am a teacher and mother currently living in Mission, BC. My interests range from travel to reading. I am also interested in animals, cooking, and coffee. I have taught in Alternate programs throughout the district for several years and am very passionate about trauma informed practice. I have recently taken a position as an LST in an Alternate school. Having grown up in the community that teach in, I am familiar with many of the resources available to our students and enjoy working with community groups to enhance our students success. I am proud to work with a strong team of educators and support staff that advocate and care for the kids that walk through the doors of our school.

Having had a son at a young age, I put off my post-secondary dreams for many years. Going back to school as a 'mature' student I feel gave me an advantage of having had many life experiences to aid me in my understanding of others. I have seen the school system as the child of an educator, a student and as a parent. This has allowed to me have well rounded outlook on many facets of education.

In the future, I would like to complete my masters in counseling. I see a need in my district for more school counselors and would like to fill that need some day. For now, I am working towards a better understanding of students' academic needs and how I can further assist them in school and as they transition into adulthood.
