Katie Jane Goulah
My name is Katie Jane, and I take fabulous photographs of people in love!
I am based in New York City, and I live on the Upper West Side with my awesome husband John – an engineer at Etsy – and our two cats: Boo Radley & Olive. We moved here in 2006 from North Carolina, so you may hear an occasional "y'all" pop out of my mouth. Feel free to make fun of me when it happens.
Photographs are a record of a life lived. They're the record that you married, that you were loved... by your partner, by your friends and family. A record of the little moments and details that sometimes fall by the wayside in your memory, but come barreling back when you see a photograph. Photographs help you remember... and that's why I'm a photographer. It's a simple answer, uncomplicated. I wish it were a more interesting, less obvious answer, but there you go.
I started out as a family photographer, eventually expanding into weddings, and then... by chance... elopements. And it's in elopements that I've found the thing that makes my heart sing. There's something so pure about two people running off to get married. I love how personal and intimate an elopement can be. How different each one is – sometimes casual, sometimes formal, sometimes just the couple with me as their witness, sometimes the couple and their ten closest friends – and yet... how universally the same: exploding with love.
I love... my incredible friends and family; New York City and San Francisco; jazz; clementines and mangoes; reading (faves: To Kill a Mockingbird, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, Middlesex, White Oleander); baking; chocolate gelato; when my husband cooks for me; This American Life; Italy; coffee; autumn; prosecco; good TV (faves: Mad Men, Breaking Bad, 30 Rock, Arrested Development); traveling as much as possible; and working on my Life List.
I love to laugh, and I love working with couples that love to laugh too! I will do whatever I can to make sure we're all having fun and capturing something spectacular at the same time. Give me some delicious, golden light and two people crazy in love, and I will make some magic happen!
