BIO

Katie Krawczyk has a sweet sultry sound that swings with unmistakable truth. She interprets standards with a blend of folk, swing, and rnb sounds. Her inspirations range from chopin to massive attack and she has many versatile projects going on.

KRAWCZYK works as both performer and composer and is a passionate pedagogue of the improvisational approach of the vocalist: to unlock the story, melody composition, and sense of play. [The main pillars of her approach is to nurture both the improv actor with the improv singer to create the improvisational songstress]. She is known as a director and teacher to many, (The Dapper Boys, an improvisational R&B collective in Montreal, Canada) and has worked as a choral conductor for Concordia University's Department of Theatre, on Antigone; a piece which broke the boundaries between electro-acoustic composition, improvisational choral singing, and greek tragedy.

Within the realm of theatre it is important to note her involvement in Four Storey Suite for the SIPA Short Works Theatre Festival 2014 Where Katie created a one hour long score and performed it live as a one woman orchestra. This composition featured a series of vocal and guitar looping layers.

Hailing from Chicago, IL, raised in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, studying between Paris, France and Montreal, Quebec. Her recorded work includes her sweet folk-inspired music "The Ryan McNabb Tribute Album EP” (2013), her take on some classic standards “The Katie Kraw Quartet” (2014), and the live video releases “Katie Kraw @ Upstairs July 15th 2015”.

When not on the scene you can often find her sketching in the corner. Continually building her series: Ink drawings of musicians session-ing around the world. Working with ink and a brush - always live on the floor, she is again nurturing her improv artist, forcing her choices to be final and authentic with each stroke.
