Ned Kaufman
Hi my name is Ned, I am a first year at the University of Georgia and my favorite hobby is downhill skiing. I have been skiing since I was three years old, my parents especially my father are the main reason why I have enjoyed the sport as much as I have. Being from Texas I do not get to experience cold weather or snow as much as I would like and I believe this is why I enjoy myself when I visit different ski resorts. I get insane amounts of joy going down a black diamond at dangerous speeds. The skiing culture is unlike the one that I normally experience being from Texas. People on the mountain are much more relaxed and trying to enjoy the breath-taking views, while people at home tend to get bored of their surroundings fairly quickly due to the similarity of nature around the Austin area. Along with the views I enjoy the different types of architecture that can be found in most ski towns. Most of the homes in Texas tend to look the same with a large amount of land and a pool, however when I look at different ski lodges in the Rockies or other mountain ranges there is a variety of shapes and sizes. The trips that I have taken with my family are one of the only times during the year in which we all can relax together and enjoy how wonderful of a bond we share. Although my mother likes to ski to see the beauty of the surrounding nature I enjoy challenging my self. My father and I normally ski together since we ski on a similar level, but in the end it is not about how good of a skier you are, it’s the quality time you share with your family.
