At the beginning of the year I took a strengths test and my top strength was responsibility. This totally fits me considering that I always think through the consequences to my actions and I am always prepared. I identify with this strength more than the rest because it affects me in every aspect of my life. I take responsibility for my actions all the time and it really bothers me when I fail to do something that I said I would. Academically, it has pushed me to ensure that I always get my work done and socially, it holds me accountable for my actions.

One thing that goes along with taking so much responsibility, however, it stress. This is why I went to a First Year Success Series on Mindfulness. During this session we talked about staying in the present and not worrying about what was coming up or what happened earlier in the day, but simply focusing on the task at hand and emerging yourself into whatever you are doing so that you can be the best you possible. During this session we meditated and it was one of the best things I did all semester. It taught me to take time for myself.

Remembering to stay relaxed helped me when I was planning out the next couple years of college. At first, I was very overwhelmed with all the possibilities and I wasn't for sure how it would all fit, but by staying in the present I was able to focus on the task at hand and plan the next two years of college. This will enable me to stay on track to graduate in four years and will keep me from being stressed in the future.
