Kayla Rumpfeldt

Writer in Gainesville, Florida

Kayla Rumpfeldt is a graduate of the University of Florida with a Bachelor's degree in Telecommunication and a minor concentration in Music History.

When she arrived in Gainesville, FL for school three years ago, she had no idea where her passion lay. Through her studies in news and communications, however, she quickly realized the power of a life story, and how it would affect her own.

During her 3 years reporting for WUFT News and WUFT-FM, Kayla covered topics ranging from investigatiation of small businesses closing, human trafficking, and city commission meetings. She worked in both radio and TV, in addition to writing web articles and incorporating social media for the station.

In congruence with her schooling, Kayla worked in the hospitality industry tending bar. It was the regulars, the visitors from out of town, the outlandish, the happy, the quiet and the excited patrons that motivated her to tell the stories of the people in her community. During her time bartending, she developed a passion for creating cocktails. Whenever possible, she is experimenting with spirits, syrups, ice, and whatever she can get her hands on to provide a new experience for her guests.

Kayla is very interested in advertising, music journalism, radio, travel and tourism, marketing, hospitality, public relations and business. Her time interning at Bluegrass Junction, SiriusXM Radio in Nashville piqued her interest in entertainment and broadcasting. She plans to move to Atlanta in early 2015.

When she's not covering the latest happenings in Gainesville, Kayla is likely listening to Music from the Big Pink on repeat or in tears of hilarity watching It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
