Kayla Walters
Student and Volunteer in Bowling Green, Kentucky
My name is Kayla Walters and I am a sophomore at Western Kentucky University. I am originally from Louisville, Kentucky and am majoring in Advertising with a minor in Marketing. I consider myself to be self-driven, diligent, and inventive.
I am involved with WKU’s Honors College and my sorority, Alpha Delta Pi. Currently, I am the Gift Mart Chair for my sorority. I work with outside vendors to design and price items for the 157 members of the chapter. I am responsible for ordering and overseeing the fulfillment and distribution of each order.
I also work as a Student Office Assistant for the Political Science Department. I provide clerical and managerial assistance for 14 faculty members. Additionally, I formalized and executed the department’s participation in the Potter College Fall Festival 2015, attended by over 800 students. While I commit myself to numerous areas outside of school, my class-work remains most important to me. I take my education very seriously and my placement on the President’s List is evidence of this.
My career goal is to become a member of the Children’s Hospital Foundation Leadership team in Louisville as a Development Coordinator. Holding an executive position on WKU’s Dance Big Red board for the past two years has led my heart and studies to pursuing this career. Dance Big Red is WKU’s 12-hour dance fundraiser that supports Kosair Children’s Hospital. During its first year, I was one of only two freshmen on the executive team, which I believe is a testament of my leadership skills, as well as my ability to direct and facilitate groups. A few of my responsibilities for this event include leading a group of 15 committee members, creating and carrying out the specific details of Dance Big Red Week, and speaking with the 31 Greek chapters on campus in an effort to get them involved. I hope that my hard work both inside and outside of the classroom will allow me to gain the skills and experience to be successful in the workforce.
