Kathleen “Katie” Berkey is a Florida Bar Board Certified Specialist (BCS) in City, County and Local Government Law and a certified Professional Planner by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP). Ms. Berkey is the only practicing professional to hold both credentials in Southwest Florida and one of eight statewide. She represents clients in zoning, land use, development, and planning matters, including: representing clients before city and county commissions, councils, and boards in hearings throughout Southwest Florida and around the state; environmental resource and water use permitting; local and state code compliance; and private and government contracting and negotiation.
Board certification is the highest level of evaluation by The Florida Bar of the knowledge, skills, and proficiency of attorneys in City, County, and Local Government Law, as well as professionalism and ethics in law practice. This specialty encompasses the preparation of laws, ordinances, regulations, and legal instruments, as well as addressing legal issues of county, municipal, other local governments, special districts, agencies, or authorities, such as: land use and zoning, taxation, sunshine law, public records law, eminent domain, sovereign immunity, and procurements.
Katie earned her Juris Doctor and Master of City and Regional Planning with a specialization in Land Use and Environmental Law from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in American Studies and Public Policy from Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
