Ever since I first learned when I was three years old, I have been hooked on the sport of skiing. Growing up in the small ski town of Vail, Colorado, I skied every chance I could get. While skiing is not common in many other places, especially down here in Georgia, to me it was the go to weekend activity. It wasn’t until I came here that I really realized how crazy skiing all of the time sounded to so many people. While skiing may be foreign to many, to me it is second nature. I ski raced competitively since around the age of seven and even got to take two classes out of each school day to go ski all throughout high school. Ski racing played a major role in my upbringing and has taught me many of the life lessons I am now carrying with me into college. It has taught me responsibility, composure, sportsmanship and so many others. It has also brought me a sense of adventure I don’t know I could have obtained anywhere else. The sport has not only allowed me to ski at every ski resort in Colorado, but it has also taken me all over the country from summer ski camps in Oregon to races on the east coast. While my upbringing may be quite different from many of my peers, it has truly made me the person I am and has given me tools to succeed in this new stage of my life.
