“Be who you want to be, not what anyone expects you to be”
Waking up every morning at 6 a.m. to catch my bus was my morning routine for 12 years. It was also my motivation to want to become someone with knowledge once I was older.
Being a product of my environment was never an option for me. As a young African American female, I was apart of a program known as METCO. METCO being a program set in Boston, takes inner city children of all races out of the city, giving them the chance to receive a better education from one of the smaller towns outside of the city .
Growing up in the inner city of Boston Massachusetts was not always easy. Losing my older cousin, who was sixteen, at the age of twelve, was when I knew I wanted to leave the city. Bad things kept occurring, and the nonsense from the streets began to consume me.
I am now a 20 year old young woman, and an incoming Junior working to receive a degree in Chemistry at NCCU. Chemistry being the only science to intrigue me, has always been the scientific subject of choice. I specifically enjoy being in the lab, studying the different medicines & how they affect cells. Figuring out how it is created, what it’s made from, and the ultimately the effect these medicines have on human cells. After graduating I plan to follow up and receive my PHD in pharmaceutical science. A bachelors degree in chemistry gives myself a wider range of jobs in the pharmaceutical science industry. Chemistry is my passion!
