Karen Cuthbert

I'm a 26 year old postgrad sociology student at the University of Glasgow. My first degree was in Anthropology and Sociology (also at the University of Glasgow), and on graduating, I was the recipient of the Adam Smith prize for the most distinguished graduate in the College of Social Sciences.

Although sociology in general makes me feel like a child in sweet shop (i.e. faced with a dazzling array of exciting possibilities), my particular interests include: sexualities, gender, intimacies and relationships, bodies and embodiment. Increasingly, I'm also interested in the sociology/social geography of 'space' and 'place'. I'm also a bit of a Methods geek, and get excited about debates concerning ontology and epistemology. I see my academic work as inextricably political, and so most of what I write/read/think about involves considerations of (in)equalities, power structures and power relations, and notions of resistance, subversion and transgression.

Outside of academia, I like: dogs, Tori Amos, sci-fi and fantasy novels, getting angry and shouting at the media, gaming (mostly PC, but also retro consoles), and hanging out with all the lovely lovely people in my life.
