Kate Drexler
Teacher, Writer, and Artist in Tofino
About Me
Hi there! I’m Kate.
I'm a teacher living and work in a First Nations community off the west coast of Vancouver Island. I am a middle school Math and Science teacher. I studied Health Sciences at McMaster University. After graduating, I traveled to Australia where I completed my Graduate Diploma in Education. I taught in remote communities in Queensland for four years, until I returned to Yellowknife, NWT where I completed my Masters in Education. I worked at the Territorial Long Term Care Facility, researching non-pharmaceutical interventions to treat mild cognitive impairment among seniors. In 2015, I moved to British Columbia. I returned to teaching children and worked with the Squamish Nation as the Mental Health and Addictions Clinician. In 2018, I moved to Tofino to work as an instructional leader.
I am interested in Special Education, as I believe educators are responsible for meeting the needs of ALL students (including those with exceptionalities)!
My Interests
- coffee (Americanos)
- animals (rescue dogs: Maggie and Ding)
