Yet, in the same way as other individuals, in the same way as other dark individuals everywhere throughout the world, I felt a feeling of misfortune seeing those pictures of him in the White House and his remarks on subjugation. Okereke goes on: It just appeared to me like a continuation of a specific strain of thought of VIP that [race is no longer] an issue when you arrive at a specific degree of progress. I'm discussing Kanye here however I [remember] OJ Simpson broadly asserting that individuals don't consider him to be a dark man as a result of the achievement he had. Indeed, even somebody like A$AP Rocky, I recollect clearly the remarks he made about not being worried about Black Lives Matter since he was rich and lived in a well-off neighborhood. He wasn't worried about the battles that individuals were embraced to push his locale forward.
[The irony] is that absolutely after what befell him so openly as of late in Sweden, where he was captured and held without bail – the race was plainly a factor in his drawn-out confinement. I wonder if his perspectives have changed. I wasn't simply discussing Kanye in that verse, Okereke explains, there is only a long history of dark performers making those sorts of remarks, and it needs to change.
