Kelly Harris

Throughout her 20 years in education, Kelly Harris, Superintendent of Schools in Leavenworth, Kansas, has taught a wide variety of subjects for students at all points in their academic progression. After beginning her career in Leavenworth as a third grade teacher, Kelly Harris eventually moved to West Middle School where she taught seventh grade English, geography and science. Three years later, Kelly Harris moved up to eighth grade, focusing solely on English. After a successful four years educating younger students, Kelly Harris joined Leavenworth High School for where she taught civics first and then geography. At this juncture in her career, Kelly Harris switched school districts to facilitate her professional growth. Harrisonville Middle School brought Kelly Harris on board as Assistant Principal and promoted her to Principal one year later. Kelly Harris flourished in this role, serving as Summer Academy Director in the off-months. In 2006, Kelly Harris secured the Assistant Superintendent of Schools position for Leavenworth. One year later, Kelly Harris became the Superintendent of Schools. Throughout her teaching career, Kelly Harris has commanded an impressive array of professional honors. Most notably, Kelly Harris transformed Harrisonville High School into a Professional Learning Community and helped increase students’ MAP and ACT test scores. Kelly Harris has chaired and facilitated numerous extracurricular committees, including West Middle School’s Public Relations Committee and Harrisonville Middle School’s Strategic Planning Committee. Utilizing her athletic skills, Kelly Harris has coached a number of different sports, including swimming and volleyball. Kelly Harris holds Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctorate degrees in Education as well as various principal certifications and an Education Specialist degree for Superintendency. Despite her vigorous schedule handling priorities, budgeting, HR auditing, and all legal issues as Superintendent, Kelly Harris is a devoted mother to her two children.
