Kelly Johnson

I am a young and eager post-grad looking for my first job in the public relations industry. I graduated from Eastern Illinois University in May 2013 receiving a B.A in communication studies with an option in public relations and a minor in advertising.

During my career at Eastern I gained experience that gave me an understanding of PR. I had several experiences that have taught me various skills such as writing, design, social media and event planning.

I was an active member of the Public Relations Student Society of America, Daniel Thornburgh Chapter. I held a position on the executive board junior year and was the president senior year. While being president I achieved a spike in attendance, a rise in funds and brought in compelling speakers to talk about the industry. From these positions I gained a sense of leadership, time management and practical knowledge.

While looking for my first “big girl” job I am volunteering with the youth group I was involved in when I was in high school. I also started a blog with some of my best friends.

I am interested in a career in the nonprofit sector; I am attracted to this because my first priority in life is helping people. I believe I want a job for my soul, not my pay check.
