Kelly J. Reed
English Department Coordinator in Attleboro, Massachusetts
Professional Mission: To provide students with relevant and empowering learning experiences which strengthen student voice, critical thinking, and digital literacy.
I am an English teacher at Attleboro High School in Attleboro, MA (2002-present). Although I've just recently transitioned to the role of department coordinator, for much of the last six years, I have worked as part of the Attleboro Community Academy (ACA)--a specialized program designed to support students who struggled in middle school make a successful transition to high school. My experiences teaching within the ACA have had a tremendous influence on my instructional and educational philosophies. Many of the students in ACA have totally disengaged from school. It is the job of my team to figure out ways to re-engage these students in their own learning. This challenge has forced me to make my instruction more relevant and student-centered.
I am also a big believer in reflective practice something that I try to incorporate as much as possible into my own practice and promote in my work with our school's Instructional Leadership Team (ILT).
