Kelly Maisonville

Teacher and Fitness Instructor in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

Hello, my name is Kelly. I am a newly graduated student from Queen's Bachelors of Education program. I completed my undergrad in French and English at the University of Ottawa and am extremely excited to start my career as a high school teacher.

I strongly believe that teaching is a two way street. We as teachers can learn just as much from our students as they can learn from us. In order to reach every student in our class we need to be able to tap into their interests and individuality to keep them motivated and engaged to learn. Building a strong relationship with my students is important to me as I want them to be comfortable trying new things and branching out in my class without fear or pressure.

I have taught languages in both Canada and France, and although the students were quite different, my methodology stayed the same: engage the students by learning about their interests.

I also have experience as a fitness instructor, which has taught me, above all, to be patient. Half of the students taking my classes were beginners to fitness, and therefore I had to start with the basics while also meeting the needs for a challenge for everyone in the class. This has helped me in my teaching practice when I taught a mixed class of extended and immersion french. These students were all at different language levels, and I had to make sure each of my students were building upon their previous knowledge and not getting left behind.

I am currently on the Ottawa Carleton District School board OT list, and I am excited to eventually secure a long time position within the board.
