Kelvin Tan
Doctor and surgeon in Singapore
Hi, I’m Dr Kelvin Tan Guoping—Senior Consultant & Specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon in Singapore - Singapore Sports And Orthopaedic Clinic
I hold an MBBS from the National University of Singapore, as well as MRCS (Edin), M.Med (Ortho) and FRCS (Edin) (Ortho).
I am fluent in English, Mandarin, Teochew and Hokkien.
My clinical interests encompass hip and knee replacement (including complex and revision cases), robotic-assisted surgery, geriatric fracture care and sports injuries.
After specialist training in orthopaedics, I was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2015 and also trained overseas in Brisbane under Prof Ross Crawford focusing on hip and knee conditions.
I have extensive experience in robotic-assisted joint replacements such as uni-compartmental (partial) knee, total knee and total hip revision surgeries. I strongly believe in leveraging cutting-edge technology (robotics, computer navigation) to optimise outcomes.
Prior to private practice I headed the Adult Reconstruction/Joint Replacement unit at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), and led the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) knee replacement programme—transitioning it towards ambulatory surgery, thereby reducing length of stay and improving value for patients.
I’ve performed more than 500-plus MAKO robotic-assisted joint replacements (MAKOplasty) and am among the region’s certified MAKO robotic trainers for partial knee, total knee and total hip replacements.
In addition to clinical work, I serve as Adjunct Assistant Professor at NUS, examiner for medical undergraduates and orthopaedic residents, and I’m active in professional societies—currently chairing the Singapore Arthroplasty Society and representing Singapore at the Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Association.
If you’re looking for orthopaedic care—particularly hip/knee joint replacement or robotic-assisted surgery—I’d be delighted to meet you and discuss your options.
