Kendrick Jamal Glasper Finch was truly a miracle baby. Born on October 30, 1998, in Dunwoody, Georgia, he weighed just 1 pound and 10.4 ounces. He is the son of Mrs. Annette (Phelan) Lott and Mr. Kenneth (Toya) Finch.

Jamal, as he prefers to be called, was raised in Flowery Branch, Georgia, and educated in the Hall County School System. He graduated from West Hall High School in Oakwood, Georgia, in 2017, where he proudly served as a Class Representative.

From a young age, Jamal loved everything about church—from the music and the furniture to the preaching and the singing. In February 2006, at the age of eight, Jamal accepted Christ and was baptized at Mount Zion Baptist Church of Flowery Branch, Georgia, under the leadership of the Rev. Eddie W. Bailey, Sr.

As a child, Jamal always felt a deep sense of purpose—something he was meant to do. He discovered that purpose in the Gospel Ministry. In 2013, he began practicing his call by speaking to birds, bees, and trees, and soon after, to his peers at FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) meetings in middle school. These meetings served as mini worship services, where Jamal delivered his first sermon—not in a church, but in a middle school library, before students and staff. The sermon was titled "Joyful in the Midst."

In September 2013, at the age of 15, Jamal was appointed a minister under the leadership of the Rev. Dr. Emerson Ross. On January 29, 2017, he was officially licensed to preach the Gospel.

Today, when he's not engaged in ministry or secular work, he enjoys making people laugh, designing graphics, listening to vintage gospel and 1950s/60s music, building churches in Minecraft, cooking, and meditating in his home chapel.
