Ken Howery

I assumed my duties as the US Ambassador to the Kingdom of Denmark on Nov 5, 2025. My priorities include strengthening our shared security, deepening our economic partnership, including in entrepreneurship, life sciences, biotech, and critical and emerging technologies, such as quantum sciences, and prioritizing a safe, secure, and prosperous Arctic, particularly in Greenland.

Previously, I served as the US Ambassador to Sweden from Oct 2019 - Jan 2021. My priorities as ambassador included strengthening security and defense ties with Sweden to confront challenges posed by non-democratic regimes, deepening economic ties between our two countries including in technology and innovation, and building upon those pillars to connect people via artistic, cultural, and scientific programs and exchanges.

Prior to my confirmation, I was co-founder and Partner at Founders Fund where I was able to invest in and work with amazing entrepreneurs at companies including ZocDoc, Quantcast, Compass, Cedar, and Citizen.

Previously I was a co-founder and the first CFO at PayPal.

I also find time for travel, reading, kiteboarding, and playing music.

With a passion for global affairs and international engagement, I have visited more than 100 countries. I am also a Founding Advisor at Kiva.org, a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum, and am a member and former member of the Board of Directors of The Explorers Club.
