Kenneth Vilkin

Ken's introduction to coin collecting started when he was about ten years old and riding his bike up to Whilshire Boulevard to take his 1922 US Peace dollar to the Superior Stamp and Coin. Ken recalls, “It was about 1971. I remember walking into this shop with sweaty business guys on both sides of the counter. They were evaluating literally piles of coins for an upcoming auction. I saw them deep in discussion, into their craft.”
One of them turned to the young kid. Ken took the coin from his pocket. The coin dealer told Ken his 1922 Peace Dollar was worth six dollars and no more because the ‘Trust’ In ‘God we Trvst’ was spelled with a ‘v’, a known spelling derivative of the 1922 Peace Dollar. The dealer didn’t buy the coin, but from that moment, Ken began to understand the variations in coins and pricing. That day he was hooked, and today, that very coin remains in his collection.
