Ken Simmons

Ken Simmons, currently new media editor at The Telegram in St. John's, NL, came to the media life early. From closed circuit broadcasting in junior and senior high school, to years of involvement with CHMR, the student radio station at Memorial University - including a stint as program director - it was a chance posting on a bulletin board that sent him on the scribe's path. From reporter to editor at The Gulf News in Port aux Basques, through numerous assignments at The Telegram, he has collected skills in copy writing, editing and interviewing, staff hiring, co-ordination and evaluation, along with computer software and hardware use and repair. As well, experience was developed in page design and the related graphics programs. Today, his focus is online. On top of this, he has maintained a life-long interest in motor sport and car culture - which has included competition in three Targa Newfoundland rallies and a certificate from the Bridgestone Racing School at Ontario's Mosport track, as well as a weekly columnist. On the artistic side, Ken has taught himself to play guitar, paint and create stained glass pieces for family and friends.
