Kent Wilcoxson Jordan
Providence, Rhode Island
Born in Berkeley, CA - 1959 - studied art in public school at Piedmont High School in Piedmont, CA from the age of 12 through 17 under Bryan Smith and Donaldina Cameron. Studied at Cabrillo College in Santa Cruz, University of the Pacific, Santa Clara University and Saint Mary's College of California. Spent early life working in standard mediums (paper mache, watercolor, pen and ink, pastels, charcoal and acrylic). Heavily influenced by San Francisco Bay Area abstract expressionism movements of the 60's and 70's, surrealism, post war and modern art movements. Moved to Los Angeles in the early 80's to continue studying and discovered the West LA fine art and downtown underground art movements. Began working exclusively in acrylic on canvas in the mid 80's with little success. Breakthrough: Discovered "paint box" software technology on AMIGA PC's in 1989 and began experimenting with video art and printing video stills. Began working and designing extensively with Photoshop on Mac's in the mid 90's. Commenced printing on large format paper and canvas in the late 90's in Emeryville, Ca. Moved to Venice, CA and developed unique abstract style of digital painting in the early 2000's - hand painting on computer screens with digital brushes using a mouse and developing methods for repeated twisting, tearing, layering, filtering, lighting and over-layering techniques, all within the digital environment. Worked as a consultant/adviser at Westbrook Modern in Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA, selling post war fine art ranging form $3K to $1M in price. http://www.westbrookgalleries.com/index.cfm/Paintings/

Quote: People ask me "How long does it take to make one of your pieces?" I say - "How long does it take to make a chocolate bar - if you take into account having the proper equipment, gathering the right ingredients, having the know how and creating the proper conditions? 20 minutes? An hour? A day? A week? A lifetime?"
