Keola Nakamoto
Kihei, HI
Aloha! My name is Keola Nakamoto. Iʻm currently a student attending University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, and I also graduated from Maui High School in 2013.
I am an Eagle Scout of Maui County Council, and I am also a Brotherhood member of Maluhia Lodge of the Order of the Arrow, which is "Scoutingʻs National Honor Society." In 2011, I became Troop 68ʻs first Junior Assistant Scoutmaster approximately 30 years after formation until 2012, when I turned 18, and I am still a part of the troop today as an Assistant Scoutmaster! I enjoy watching the scouts grow as leaders, and it's great to be able to work alongside the leaders that guided me in the past.
That same year, I was also elected Lodge Chief for the OA, which made my final year in high school a challenge with a great experience. Currently, I am serving as the Section W-6P Chief, and I am leading in planning the 2015 conclave, as well as traveling to the mainland more than I usually do. Within a year, I've already traveled to the mainland three times, and I'm not done with my travels yet. This summer, I will be heading to Denver to join my friends for ArrowTour. I will then be exploring a few more states before I hit Michigan for the biggest National Order of the Arrow Conference ever with about 15,000 people!
Recently, I decided to become a vegetarian, and this is probably the best decision I've made for myself. Not only I feel better than ever, but I'm also spreading a positive influence to my family! Now, they're making healthier choices, and they recently decided to stop purchasing red meat, which is a huge accomplishment I've made at home!
In my spare time, I like to play Pokémon, and I recently started to play competitively. I competed in a school competition in April, and I made a first place finish. I'm also a member of the Pokémon Club at school! I also serve as the Treasurer of the Public Relations Student Society of America at school as well.
