Kerensa Davis

I am originally from a small country town in New Zealand called Tirau, population of around 700 people and three times as many sheep. My parents moved us to the big city of Auckland and after a few years we immigrated to the Gold Coast Australia in 1994.

Currently I am attending the Queensland College of Art at Griffith University as a mature age student to complete a Bachelor of Digital Media majoring in Fine Art and Drawing.

I have been a lifelong artist, but the route to becoming a full time professional artist has been a non-conventional journey. My ultimate career had to be set aside whilst I became a full-time mother and business owner. After attending group painting classes with a local artist, I decided to take the plunge and finally go to University.

Although my favorite medium to use is paint, I also create artworks by sculpting, drawing, photography, and using digital media such as video. Through my University degree I have been able to learn invaluable skills from my tutors and peers which I believe have given me a broader range of skills and a better understanding of my own art.

The themes I explore in my work are always closely related to my own personal experiences in life and how I see and interact in the world around me. Some subjects I feel a need to express about myself, are stories or experiences many other people can relate to. I want my work to communicate the beauty of the community I live in.
