Rene Kern

Since joining General Atlantic in 1996, Rene Kern has served in a number of leadership roles in North America, Latin America and Europe. He oversees the firm’s Resources Group and is the Chairman of GA's Capital Committee. Rene also serves on the firm’s Executive, Investment and Portfolio Committees. He is a director of tradeMONSTER / OptionsHouse, KCG and amedes Group.

Rene originally joined GA to head our European activities, leading several new investments and building a team of senior professionals and advisors. He then led our Financial Services sector and served on the boards of RiskMetrics Group as a director and NYMEX Holdings as an observer. During this same period, he helped build GA’s business in Brazil.

Rene joined GA after six years with Morgan Stanley in New York and London, where he was a Vice President in the Investment Banking Division. Before that, he was a management consultant with Bain & Company in Boston.

A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Rene earned an M.B.A. from the Wharton School and an M.A. from the School of Arts and Sciences. He is a fellow of the University’s Lauder Institute International MBA program and serves on Lauder's Board of Governors. He received his B.S. degree from the University of California, Berkeley. He is a member of U.C. Berkeley's Metro New York Committee and the Board of Trustees of Greenwich Academy.
