After moving to Calgary from the UK in 2013, I have been inundated with questions about how we did it and why. Having had the conversation more times than I would like to count I thought I would put it all into a blog that I could share with everyone who is considering doing the same. The blog is still a work in progress as there are more pages of information I’d like to add and of course, so many more adventures to be had. Please keep checking back or post a comment if you have a specific question about something because if I don’t know the answer, I am sure I can definitely find out for you.
The Story – I moved to Calgary from the UK in 2013 and have to say I highly recommend it. We had made the decision to move about 18 months prior to finally getting on the plane. It wasn’t an easy journey and it definitely took some determination and persistence but it was a challenge that I was adamant to win. Anyone who knows me knows that when I set my mind to something, I will move heaven and earth to make it happen. Ta da!!
My husband was fortunate enough that he qualified as a skilled worker so after trips up and down the country to several interviews, we were able to secure a temporary foreign workers position. This enabled us to have secure working visa’s and employment before heading over but there was a time when we were so determined that we thought sod it, lets wing it. Now I’m here I can say that that probably would have worked to. Jobs are aplenty and there are fantastic opportunities around every corner.
Now whilst I have learnt a lot in the short time we’ve been here, there are still so much more to come. I will continue to update this site as I go providing you with the most current and up-to-date information but do bear in mind that it is all based on my own personal experiences. You will find that it is very South orientated because we don’t work or live North of the Beltline (City Centre) but I shall try my best to include things from everywhere.
By reading through each page you will gain an insight into most areas of emigrating because what I have missed out on one, will more than likely be included on another. I hope that you find it insightful and for those of you who are still undecided, just take a gander. Who knows what you’ll think by the end of it!
