Kerri Henry

Teacher in Ontario

Hey there, I’m Kerri.

I have been an adult ESL teacher for three years. Two of the three have been online. The previous ten years, I have taught math and science from K-College level. Teaching ESL is different for me because I have been such a factual, logical learner and teacher and now I am teaching pronunciation, grammar, speaking, listening, reading and writing to students. I appreciate how hard it is to learn the English language, so anything I can do to make it easy and fun for my students, I give it a try!

I have travelled as a teacher from England to the Canadian Arctic to northern Ontario. Now, I have found myself in southern Ontario where I will stay until I need to meet new people again!

I received my BSc. from the University of Waterloo and my teaching degree from D'Youville College. I have taken a special education and eLearning ABQ from Queens University. I have really enjoyed all the tools and strategies I gain from these courses and from fellow classmates. I am taking this course because I would like to be qualified to formally assess newcomers as they enter Ontario.

Probably the best part of teaching ESL is building relationships and communities within my ESL class. I really try to encourage my class to become a community, enjoy our mistakes and progress a little every day.

I have a husband, an eleven year old son and two chocolate labradoodles. We love taking the dogs hiking, camping, and swimming. I also enjoy doing power weight classes to feel stronger in my life.

Now, I can leave this and learn about all of you!
