Kerry Bryant is a current Master of Public Health (MPH) student concentrating in Health Promotion and Behavior at Georgia State University. His research interests are HIV/AIDS prevention in racial and sexual minorities and other infectious diseases. Bryant also received his Bachelors of Science degree in General Studies, concentrating in Health, Family and Human Development, and Sociology at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX.
His passion for public health came to existence when he was in the Master of Social Work program at University of Nevada, Las Vegas. In his professional and personal life, he noticed there huge health disparities among marginalized communities such as lack of nutritious foods, alcohol/substance abuse, an increase in Sexually Transmitted Diseases, and little to no access to healthcare and social services. After completing some public health courses, he made the transition from social work to public health.
Bryant is a Peer Educator-Graduate Assistant at Georgia State University, Student Health Promotion. His duties include: raising awareness and educating college students on the five core curriculum: Tobacco, alcohol and substance abuse, domestic violence, healthy sexuality, health and safety, and nutrition; analyzing survey data and creating narratives for the supervisor, and networking and collaborating with different organizations. He is a board member of a new non-profit organization, Helping to Extend Life to People, Inc. (H.E.L.P.). He assists with program development, outreach, and networking and collaboration. Bryant also serves as an interim intern at Someone Cares Inc. of Atlanta where he conducts HIV testing and counseling, analyzes data and creating narratives for the supervisor, case management, and co-facilitates a support group.
He is currently finishing his coursework and preparing to write his thesis. He is expected to graduate in August 2016.
