Kevin Heslin
Kevin C. Heslin, PhD is a research health scientist at the Veterans Health Administration. Dr. Heslin's research focuses on access to health services and health outcomes in underserved populations, particularly persons with HIV/AIDS and substance misuse problems. He was a collaborator on the HIV Costs and Services Utilization Study, the first nationally representative study of HIV patients in the U.S., as well as the UCLA Homeless Women's Health Study. Dr. Heslin is currently principal investigator on a study funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) to examine the role of provider supply, poverty, and other aspects of the social environment in explaining racial/ethnic disparities in mental health services use and addiction-related outcomes among substance abuse treatment clients in California. He is also collaborating with the Sober Living Network of Southern California and the UCLA Center for Vulnerable Populations Research on a formative study of quality in group housing for individuals recovering from alcohol and drug dependence. His research has received awards from the American Statistical Association, the Association of Schools of Public Health, and the Universitywide AIDS Research Program, University of California.
