Styrene Emissions Monitoring in the United Kingdom

Leaving school at 16, going into the British Army, serving with the Royal Engineers for 12 years was challenging.

Joining Cray Valley in 1987 I wasn't aware it was going to last 32 long & happy years, Now at 60 years of age it's time to slow it down a little, pass my knowledge and experience to others where I can.

I have over 20 years commercial experience, visiting our customers, learning the trade, seeing all the different types of processes along the way.

Styrene has been a topic of conversation in all this time and will continue to be so in the future for many years to come, purely because there is so much legislation that comes with using Styrene.

We have a lot of knowledge about Styrene and we know, Styrene is under constant regulatory vigilance with continuous focus on improved workers safety and rightly so.

From the guys laminating on the shop floor to the people in the Offices constantly breathing in these nuisance odours, we have a responsibility to let them know at least what they are breathing in measured against what legislation allow us to expose them to over a given period of time.

Measuring VOC's in the workplace is easy, understanding them is slightly different. We want to create a friendly atmosphere that covers the subject matter in detail. We want the workers and the office staff to fully understand what this material does and doesn't do to their health. That is a duty of care.

We can give the workforce a presentation that covers the following topics: Polyester resins - what are they? types etc. Benefits of Polyester resins. Styrene - what is it? where is it used? and why do we use it?

We can discuss Occupational Exposure in the workplace, different processing techniques and 8 hour TWA. We can touch upon COSHH and REACH and who is responsible.

We can also discuss the methods of determining VOC's in the workplace and how the PID works taking measurements.

Finally, we can measure Styrene (VOC's) levels in the workplace using a PID (Photo Ionisation Detector).

Communication is key to any successful business. Understanding what you are exposed to is a fundamental legal requirement.

I'm confident of what I can bring to your Company, you need to have confidence in me to do it for you.

Contact me if I can be of service to you. I look forward to hearing from you.
