Kevin Debruyn
Software Engineer and Web Developer in Brussels, Belgium
I'm a software & web developer from Brussels with 7 years of professional experience spent in various fields such as healthcare, security, building architecture, finances & media. After a hiatus from work to backpack extensively in Asia, I returned to achieve my conversion to Ruby on Rails from my more traditional C#, PHP and Java upbringings. In the process I updated my knowledge in modern web frameworks and tools (Git, AngularJS, BootStrap, CodeIgniter, SASS, ..), also ancient Perl (don't judge).
Over the years, I have come to realize that I'm good at organizing things, which is probably why Software Architecture was one of my favourite courses during my university days. I also enjoy challenge and problem-solving and therefore have taken part in the annual Facebook Hacker Cup on several occasions, as well as exercise on HackThisSite or Khan Academy.
Career-wise, I'm probably the most proud of the .Net Wiki document management system based on Wikipedia PHP source code that was started as a side-project and ended up being integrated at Bureau van Dijk Electronic Publishing, effectively solving the decentralization of documents amongst teams.
