I am a theoretical astrophysicist who is fascinated by the atmospheres of exoplanets. I am Chair Professor (German: Lehrstuhlinhaber) of "Theoretical Astrophysics of Extrasolar Planets" at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, Germany. I was previously the director of the Center for Space and Habitability (CSH) at the University of Bern, Switzerland. I am co-founder of the Exoplanets conference series together with Didier Queloz. I am the recipient of a 2017 ERC Consolidator Grant, a 2024 ERC Synergy Grant and the 2018 Chambliss Award of the American Astronomical Society (AAS). I occasionally write for the American Scientist magazine. I am a Honorary Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Warwick, U.K., as well as at the University College London (UCL).
