Dr. Mohammad Shahid Hussein Khan was born in the District of Chittagong, Bangladesh in 1944. He obtained his Medical MBBS degree from Dhaka University in Bangladesh in 1969 and shortly after immigrated to England to obtain a higher qualification and training in General Surgery in 1971. There he obtained a fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeon’s in England (FRCS England) and also a fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeon’s in Glasgow (FRCS Glasgow) in 1977. Soon after Dr. Khan worked in various NHS hospitals across England.
Afterwards, Dr. Khan worked as a Consultant Surgeon at the Central Hospital in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from 1983 to 1999. Then he worked as a Senior Consultant Surgeon at King Fahd Central Hospital in Jizan, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from 2003 to 2011.
During this period, Dr. Khan was directly responsible for teaching undergraduate and post-graduate medical students, publishing various surgical papers in international medical journals, and involved with numerous professional organizations.
Notably, Dr. Khan set a record in the Guinness Book of World Records for operating on the largest hydatid cyst which contained 37 litres of fluid and was removed from 80 year old Abduhllah Bakhet Al Hagawe by Dr. Abdul Rahman Arishi and Dr. Mohammad Shahid Hussain Khan, at the King Fahd Central Hospital in Jizan, Saudi Arabia, on 12 January 2005. The main cysts had multiple daughter cysts attached and was found in his abdomen
Dr. Khan is a British citizen, now retired and living in London. He is happily married with three children. His daughter is a Pharmacist in California, and his two sons live in London.
