I’m Kieran Lynch, a high school sports reporter at Newsday on Long Island. I strive to find the angles and anecdotes that give insight into the games being played and the athletes playing them.

I completed my M.A. in journalism at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications where I focused on expanding my skillset for a multimedia digital landscape. I learned how to code websites, track their success and use analytics to grow an audience.

In the more traditional sense of journalism, I expanded my reporting experience by covering a City of Syracuse beat that focused on low-income education and small business issues and a political beat that focused on New York government. While learning in the classroom and in the field, I also taught introductory graphics courses to Newhouse undergraduates that covered the Adobe Suite.

St. John’s University is where I got my first taste of journalism. I joined The Torch, the university’s student newspaper, as a sophomore sports writer. I moved up to features editor and then editor in chief as I grew from covering game stories to leading a newsroom of student journalists.

I’ve studied abroad in Rome and Paris, augmented my journalism education with a range of classes in history and consider myself a close follower of political news.

Publications I’ve worked for include the San Francisco Chronicle, amNewYork and the Long Island Herald.
