I’m an east coast girl, who for the past several years has made my home in Louisville, where southern hospitality meets midwestern values. I am fortunate to have an amazing life partner, Sandie, who is my best critic and cheerleader. While photography is my medium of choice, I consider myself an artist who paints with light. The aim of my work can best be described as capturing the ‘interiority’, the inner character or quality of something. With my camera most often set to ‘wide open’, to let the most light in, I wander woods, creeks and even overgrown patches along the road, listening to the voices of the tiny rocks, leaves, and drops of water that I encounter. My images and their titles seek to convey the perception -- the combination of seeing and feeling -- that I had while shooting. For me, it’s something I hear. Sometimes it practically shouts to me, and sometimes it is more subtle. I sense a hint of something and just shoot, teasing out its essence. Sometimes it is that one, single rock in the creek speaking to me. And sometimes it is the conversation of the entire creek. I have a special affinity for weeds. Where others see invaders, or unwanted growth, I see an amazing persistence and beauty. The structure, color, and variety of weeds is an unending source of ‘interiority.’
