Kimberly Cheyne

HI, my name is Kimberly and I am trying to heal after multiple tragedies in my life. I have been told that my story is both heartbreaking and inspirational. One reason I wanted to share my story is the hope that I might inspire others or even one person not to give up no matter what the circumstances. My other purpose is to document my life and my husbands. In 2008 I married my best friend. I gained two beautiful step daughters and in Sept 2009 our son was born, life was great and promising. My Husbands then 13 year old daughter came to live with us which brought both joy and sorrow because we found out she had suffered abuse. At my one year postpartum check up a large lump was found in my right breast which turned out to be an aggressive form of breast cancer called (Triple Negative). The 3.5cm mass had already infiltrated the duct and was sitting on my chest wall. I had bilateral mastectomies on 11/15/2010 followed by MRSA keeping me in the hospital. Soon after a port was placed in my chest and then I started a 6 month course of chemo therapy 12/28/2010. In February 2011 our daughter’s abuser was sentenced to prison and we saw her blossom into an honor roll student, a real source of pride for us both. We were a happy family and I felt blessed for my life. I was off work throughout the chemo and as time went on we became pretty broke. My husband had been earning good money on and off but as the economy grew week so did his jobs working as a tile and flooring installer. I returned to work in July 2011 following 6 weeks of Physical therapy to regain some of my lost strength. Things were looking up and even my husband had picked up some work which was helpful. Kris came to me one day very excited about a business opportunity with a friend whose deck he helped to repair. I was extremely apprehensive as most new businesses fail within a year. Kris asked or pleaded really for me to believe in him so I did. I feel Kris had fallen under the influence of the wrong person and tried to take the easy way out of our financial struggles. On 10/13/2011 my husband was killed by the police after he and the other guy gave chase following a bank robbery. Worse yet a police officer was struck and killed when he attempted to deploy stop sticks, running into the path of the SUV which was unable to miss him. The officer left behind a wife and two daughters. None of our lives will ever be the same. As an update in 2014 my journey has been a long and difficult one, I hope I am fi
