Guzheng Musician

Kimberly (Wong) Yip was born and raised in San Francisco, CA and lucky to be exposed to the world of Chinese instruments at the young age of 8.

By the age of 10, her love for music had grown tremendously and she began her training and study of the guzheng (Chinese zither) under Ms. Winnie Wong, Founder of China’s Spirit Music Ensemble (CSME). As her musical expertise advanced, she became a core member of CSME’s Original Silk Ensemble where she led other ensemble musicians in various cultural performances and music competitions all over the San Francisco Bay Area.

Some notable venues and stages where she has performed include - Herbst Theatre, Oracle Park, De Young Museum, University of California Berkeley, Chinese Cultural Center of San Francisco, San Jose Center for Performing Arts, Sister Caroline Collins, D.C Theater, Oakland Asian Cultural Center, Pacific Renaissance Plaza, San Jose State University, The St. Regis San Francisco, Chinese Performing Arts of America (CPAA) Arts Center, Greater Boston Chinese Cultural Association, View Boston, and Fenway Park!

In 2021, Kim moved to Boston, MA and found herself turning to music as a therapeutic outlet of expression! She wanted to share her expertise and love for guzheng with the new community around her and decided to start WONGderful Tunes Studio in 2024!

Through her music and the use of different tones on the guzheng, as well as expressive dynamics, she takes her listeners on a story through history and culture, sharing a piece of her Chinese background and heritage with all.
