Kimberly Swanson

Hello and welcome! My name is Kim and I am very happy to meet you! I want to tell you a little bit about myself. I am happily married for 11 years and am a very proud mom of our nine-year old son. I'm Colorado based and live in an amazing community right next to the foothills, just West of Denver. I feel very lucky to reside in beautiful Golden, Colorado. There are almost always mountains in my photographs, as we are surrounded by their majestic beauty. The people, the scenery, the weather and the outdoor lifestyle are the reasons we live here. I am a fraternal twin and have family in many different states, none of which are Colorado. I miss them everyday, but we travel when we can to be together. I am extremely grateful each and every day for the life that I've been given.

MY STORY

After graduating college from the University of Kansas, I entered the corporate world and stayed there for sixteen very long years. After I had my son, I was blessed to be able to stay home and care for him. Becoming a mommy was ultimately the catalyst to my photography career. Photography was my calling and I am certain is exactly what I am supposed to be doing. It truly fits who I am, my personality and my strengths. While I'm not taking or editing portraits, I am watching my son play sports, skiing, exercising, entertaining, working in my garden, enjoying my family, and am constantly seeking new opportunities to improve my photography. I am obsessed with Kansas basketball, football, fashion, music, family, friends, having fun and my love of photography.

HOW I SHOOT

Up high, down low and from the hip. I am extremely relaxed and try my darndest to make everyone in the shoot as comfortable as possible. I am not a clock watcher. I photograph you until I'm certain I have the perfect number of images to tell your story. I work almost exclusively with natural light in an outdoor environment. I feel it's too beautiful here not to be outside. I strive to make people giggle during their session and I like posed, but I LOVE candid. Capturing natural expressions and moments, I feel, is what makes a photograph speak to the heart.
