Kindra R. Speech
Future Lawyer, Entrepreneur, and Philanthropist in Southern Illinois, USA
Greetings! Thank you for your interest in learning more about me. I am a proud native of North Carolina who has had the opportunity to live in many places and meet many people. After receiving my B.A. in English Literature and Women's Studies, I taught English as a Second Language for the Japanese Exchange and Teaching Programme (JET) in Japan. I also later taught in public and private schools here in the USA, and for a private school in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. I have been fortunate to work in Education, Human Resources, Nonprofit Case Management, Customer Relationships, and in Management and Administrative roles. These experiences provided me with chances to adapt to changing circumstances and appreciate diversity of thought and culture. When I move into a community, I like to get involved with the people and activities that thrive in the area. I believe in volunteering and serving within the community as a way of getting to know and support my neighbors. As an educator who attended a woman’s college, a breast cancer survivor who has navigated the healthcare system with and without insurance, and as someone who has been a member of the “working homeless” and indigent, I advocate for quality public education, policies that benefit women, children, families, and those with disabilities, healthcare industry and justice system reform, as well as socio-economic equality and human rights. In early 2022, I launched “Locked by Diva, LLC” in the Southern Illinois community of Carbondale, IL to provide SisterLocks™️ as a Certified Trainee. This business will assist me with the expense of attending SIU School of Law, while still enabling me to express my entrepreneurial and creative skills. Please feel free to connect with me on my social media accounts. Thank you.
