I am a Senior Lecturer in Power Systems and Director of the MSc in Electrical Power Engineering at the School of Engineering of the University of Edinburgh, and a member of the Institute for Energy Systems, where I research renewable energy conversion and integration, smart grids and energy efficiency.
I hold a BEng in Electronic Engineering from the Technological Educational Institute of Crete, Greece (1999), a Postgraduate Diploma in Communications, Control & DSP from the University of Strathclyde (2000) and a PhD in Electrical Power Systems from the University of Edinburgh (2005).
I am investigator and work package leader in more than 10 large collaborative UK and EU research projects including:
- the UK Centre for Energy Systems Integration (CESI);
- the UK Centre for Advanced Materials for Renewable Energy Generation (CAMREG);
- the FP7 DTOCEAN (marine energy);
- the FP7 ITN ADVANTAGE (smart grids);
- the EPSRC SUPERGEN Marine projects (marine energy).
I have co-authored more than 70 peer reviewed publications. I currently lead a group of 8 Doctoral and 3 Postdoctoral Researchers, all working in the areas of renewable energy and smart grids.
My teaching includes courses on renewable energy and control engineering at both under- and postgraduate levels.
I am a Senior Member of the IEEE and Member of the IET and a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Ambassador for East Scotland.
