Kip Uhlhorn started recording aural experiments under the moniker Cloudland Canyon in 2002 with help from German, Simon Wojan. After several years of long distance collaboration (as well recording sessions held in the US and Germany,)their first Cloudland Canyon release,”Requiems Der Natur, 2002-2004” was released by Tee Pee(High on Fire,Sleep,Earthless,)in 2006 and was largely a collection of older works and experiments. After so much clandestine work, Cloudland Canyon was unleashed upon the world and set about releasing a number of other releases and touring that same year. Cloudland Canyon released a single track collaboration 12”/LP, Exterminating Angel, with Lichens(Uhlhorn’s old friend Robert A.A. Lowe formerly of 90 day men/TV on the Radio/OM) in 2007 on Holy Mountain.

That same year the band was signed to Kranky and released their first proper album; Silver Tongued Sisyphus (initially released on vinyl in an edition of 96 copies by german label Meudiademorte. In 2008 the band released a split 12” with Mythical Beast on Not Not Fun and released their second full length, Lie in Light. Cloudland Canyon moved to Holy Mountain (who offered the band their own imprint, subsequently, named Intercoastal Artists,) for 2010’s Fin Eaves, which become their best received work to date, landing on numerous year-end lists, as well as on tour with the Flaming Lips(who also asked the band to collaborate with them,) as well as Interpol, and Bear in Heaven. CC was even name dropped by the Arcade Fire in Paste Magazine.

Uhlhorn has also played in several other successful groups/bands including: The Red Scare(Troubleman Unlimited,) Panthers(Dim Mak, Vice/Atlantic Records), Pharaohs(100%Silk,Stone's Throw, Intercoastal Artists,) & Eden Express(Holy Mountain.) He has also played guitar live and on albums by Rhys Chatham and Glen Branca, including Chatham's notorious Crimson Grail, which was staged at Lincoln Center. However, his most enduring endeavor to date, is without a doubt Cloudland Canyon. Cloudland Canyon’s ranks have included a number of top-shelf members, most importantly Uhlhorn’s wife Kelly Winkler, as well as Uhlhorn’s close friend Jerry Fuchs (also drummer for !!!, LCD Soundsystem, Maserati, Turing Machine, Moby,etc.) who died tragically in 2009.
