My name is Kirk Douglas and even with years of customer service, telecommunications and retail sales experience under my belt, I still haven’t mastered describing myself on the open internet. Here goes.

I should start at the beginning. As a product of the 80’s I spent my youth in upstate New York. I completed my high school education with a heavy interest in the English language and creative writing. I remember fondly having won a college poetry contest while I was still in 9th or 10th grade in which one of my poems was published in a book as a result of my second place winning. I was far from a model student in any capacity, but my ability to ‘ think outside the box’ as they say, made creative writing feel natural and satisfying to me.

I am grateful to have had a couple of very important teachers who were positively influential to me and inspired me to explore that passion. My wish is to have that impact on someone someday.

In 2006, in an effort to escape my lackluster lifestyle of an adult food services worker, I made the biggest move of my life to San Diego, California. Intent on defining myself and making some kind of name, I thought it was the first step in moving closer to any chance at a solid career.

Since then, I have worked in a number of fields with my most recent work being the most important to me. I am grateful to be exploring 3 key fields of interest and passion. I work by day as a content creator and assistant video editor; Nights and weekends as a retail sales and training specialist and finally, as a contributing writer for Mithical Entertainment, focusing on technology and its social and cultural influence on modern society.

Aside from these endeavors, I also enjoy painting and composing music. I occasionally create video-game-inspired electronic compositions that can be found on Soundcloud. Video is my most recent medium of preference and I run an Instagram account (@meanfifteen) in which I explore remixing 15 seconds of film footage with music I enjoy. I consider myself an artist and my goal has always been to find ways to make my art my job.

Ever since I can remember, I never knew what I wanted to be when I grew up ...and I still don’t. I am very happily creative and multimedia and technology are a couple of areas in particular where I remain ever-passionate.

If my Twitter account is what brought you here, fear not my crass online presence as it is merely a thin New York veil atop my California dreams.
