Kirstie Olley
Writer and Mother in Australia
Having been telling tales (the good kind and the cheeky) since before memory Kirstie first put fingers to (typewriter) keyboard at age 8 attempting to write her own ‘Goosebumps’ tale. She continued on to teach her ninth grade English teacher the importance of setting word limits for short story assignments by handing in a 27 page novella. Word limits remain her greatest foe to this day(apart from big hairy spiders).
Kirstie runs the gamut of speculative fiction from superheroes (her 2013 Aurealis Awards finalist story 'Short Circuit' as an example) and modern fantasy (such as her 2013 Redlitzer Writing Competition winning 'Stolen Hearts'), to fairy tales with a twist (such as her Retailored Fairy Tales series including 'The Trolls Toll' and 'Charming'), to Japanese fantasy ('Hanabi to Kitsune' from the anthology 'Tales From The Sunrise Lands') and science fiction ('Anything To Fit In' free on 365 Tomorrows), with a dash of Australian horror ('Mudgerwokee', in 'Pacific Monsters' from Fox Spirit Books) just to keep her readers on their toes.
Kirstie delights in romantic sub plots, and has a strong 'love is love' belief, so enjoys writing a variety of pairings.
Kirstie is currently working on a series of novellas in her Retailored Fairy Tales series which follows rival Prince Charmings for hire as well as producing a plethora of short fiction. At the same time she is querying agents with the first volume of her high fantasy quartet and putting the finishing touches on a separate portal fantasy stand-alone novel. Considering her fear of spiders it is surprising to see her behave as if she has eight limbs herself.
