Hi, I’m Kirtanya. I’m a Marine Biologist living in Cape Town, South Africa. I am working as a Project Officer at WWF South Africa in the Southern African Sustainable Seafood Initiative. My work is all about ocean conservation through inspiring behaviour change among consumers.

I have a BSc in Applied Biology, Ecology and Evolution, an Honours in Biological Science and a Masters in Biological Science, with a Marine Biology focus, all through the University of Cape Town. My Masters was funded through the National Research Foundation and through the Green Matter Fellowship. After my studies I completed an internship through the Environmental Leaders Programme at WWF South Africa.

I love working for the nature and have worked with a number of environmental organisations including Student Energy Canada, World Student Environmental Network, Fossil Fuel Divestment Campaign, UCT Green Campus Initiative, Green Shift Africa, AIESEC exchange program, United Nations and Greenpop.

I have interests in peace-building, mental well-being and community development, and serve as a facilitator of meditation and yoga for communities and schools, through the International Association of Human Values.

Whether teaching children about pollution in China, training in open data sharing in Belgium, meditating in India or Sailing the Mediterranean, I am a lover of life and thrive on learning and sharing with diverse people, causes and places.
